Both freshwater and saltwater pools use chlorine to sanitize the water. In a freshwater system, the chlorine is delivered to the water in tablet or granule form at 1.0 and 3.0 ppm to maintain healthy levels. In a conventional freshwater pool, chlorine is added at the highest level for sanitation, then slowly dissipates so more chlorine needs to be added. With saltwater systems, there is a consistent flow of chlorine produced by your generator, so the chemical levels stay balanced.
